Monday Memory: Kanako Murakami

The transition from the junior to senior circuit can often be difficult for figure skaters as champions at the junior level seek to maintain their success at the senior level. This was not the case for Kanako Murakami during the 2010-2011 season.  She managed to medal in first three senior international events, striking gold twice. For her senior debut season she performed a very demanding, high-energy short program to the music “Jumping Jack”. Never losing the animated spirit that she started out with, it was a privilege to see this vibrant skater perform “Jumping Jack” live at Skate America in Portland, OR.  Although Murakami’s last performance of this program was at the 2011 World Championships, the maturity and development that she exhibited in her skating during the 2011-2012 season makes this program seem like a memory. Furthermore, it’s a performance that one can never get tired of!
